Last fall I took a few photos of some tree branches from our yard and drew this print. I finally had the time to finish carving the print earlier this week and just did the first test print. It needs a bit of cleaning up, but I really love the way it turned out. Now, I just need to figure out what type of tree this is so that I can name the print!

My favorite of all the Valentine's crafts I saw this year is the DIY elbow patch above.

I hope you all get to spend today with some of the people you love. Our kids are head over heels for this holiday so we try to make the day fun and special - and I've been known to enjoy a box of chocolate.

I'm looking for a few bracelets to add to my collection (or begin my collection rather) and love these beauties from The Vamoose. And I'm beginning to like gold again; for years I've only worn silver jewelry, but I'm realizing that I've been missing out. Gold is lovely - of course, you already knew that.

Every once in a while, one of my children's drawings will catch my attention because I can see that it would make a perfect block for printing. I thought I'd share with you how to turn a child's drawing into a block, a perfect way to share your children's artwork with family and friends. For this project, Henry the turtle, drawn by my daughter, is the star.  *more notes are at the end of the post*

• I used a product called EZcut as my block material; safety cut is similar and can be cut to size
• A Speedball lino cutter is a great beginner tool for block printing.
• To transfer the drawing to the block (if using a charcoal pencil), simply rub the back of the drawing with your hand onto the block - easy!
• We printed Henry onto a cotton tote bag using fabric screenprinting ink, and a foam stencil brush to apply the ink to the block. 
• I like to print on a hard surface - kitchen counters, a flat desk, even a hard floor work well. Simply protect the surface with a bit of fabric.
• Have fun!

I've never really liked the color blue; I'm always drawn to greens, but lately, this steel blue color has begun to steal my heart. I may have to mix some ink later today to see if I can find a version of it that I like for printing. What about you - blue or green?
